• guardian-ward romance

• MC (Motorcycle Club) romance AKA Outlaws AKA ppl who resort to illegal stuff—“What a way to kickstart my bookstagram journey...already so taboo *zipped lips*. MC>Mafia for me! My guilty-pleasure...*giggles*.”

• Story spans over several years— “This is a 'make it' or 'break it' trope for me cuz it can either be ultra shitty or un-putdownable. Trust me on that.”

• Story spans over several years

• Short book—“Under 300 pages but not a short story, obviously.”

• Written in 3rd person—“Now, if you are an experienced reader... you are probably scrunching your nose, but trust me... It's totally WORTH IT! Miss. Kayn is FAB!”

“ My heart is on the verge of bursting at its seams when it comes to this book. No Joke! 

MY NOTE FOR UPCOMING AUTHORS: Hey, upcoming authors! Wassup? If you wanna learn how to make your readers fall for your characters as well as the story, LEARN FROM Miss.Kayn. Period. (Cue: I am trying to be funny...so I think you should laugh)

This is the kind of story that pulls you out of a MAJOR BOOK SLUMP. ESPECIALLY IF NORMAL ROMANCES BORE YOU TO NO END.

It's been so freaking long since I have come across a perfect 5 star read. A PERFECT FUCKING 5. NOT FREAKING 4½ (cuz lately I have been finding books worth 4½ stars. Yea, it's annoying). 

Well...a little about me: I am an advocate for less popular books. 

My 'Read' list on Goodreads translates into this (literally): a number of underrated books with a 5-star rating >>> number of over-hyped books with a 5-star rating.

But, I will admit that I was being a little partial while rating this book, even though it was a little bit here-and-there in terms of the editing. Can't help it though, I am a sucker for a swoon-worthy age-gap romance DONE RIGHT!

Johanna is so forbidden for Chief! He shouldn't even think of her like that...but it happened and it was out of pure intention! Like...I don't understand why I love this level of  'fucked-up'...BUT I DO. I FREAKING DEVOURED THEM. These kinds of relationships are not normal in our world, but it is—up to some extent— in their world. I love MC romances, Man! The angst and attraction.... give me goosebumps, honestly. Beyond that, the principle of 'FAMILY' that Motorcycle Clubs advocate, runs beyond blood. All I am left with is broken thoughts, wondering how ILLEGAL and GOOD can go hand in glove but still be a turn-on for people like me? It's super-duper easy to get disgusted with all that happens in this book; some tend to take Chief as a child predator, but trust me....he's anything but that. ( Call me out all you want but this is how I feel)

I haven't read many Guardian-Ward romances—which, by the way, is a very controversial trope —but this one gives me Zeus and Lou vibes from Welcome to the Darkside by Giana Darling—which, is one of my favorite books from this trope. So happy to add another one to that list!

For the record, I haven't enjoyed many books with a storyline spanned over several years, but clearly, this book isn't one of them. I particularly read the book for this feel, and boy was I not swept off my feet!! I LOVE CHIEF AND JOHANNA!! I LOVE THEM TOGETHER. I LOVE THEM APART. I LOVE THEM IN EVERY SITUATION BECAUSE THEY OCCUPY A SIGNIFICANT SPACE IN MY HEART. Oh, my heart! 😩

I don't know why I didn't find this author earlier but, clearly, I have a lot of catching up to do. 

Personal note to Debra Kayn: I was apprehensive of going into a book, written in 3rd person, but you proved me wrong.Oh so wrong! It doesn't feel like a narration at all!  

The chemistry that she kindles between Chief and Johanna is perfect!!! I love books in which characters accept the chemistry that exists between them and leave the rest on life. I have immense respect for such characters. Most books have characters who deny the chemistry that life is offering them on a FREAKING SILVER PLATTER and that pisses me off. Lol

The way their relationship transitioned over the years had me glued to the book. Although I didn't quite like the way Chief and Johanna treated Karla ( I am a raging feminist and name-calling Karla got me real bad), especially after what she had done for the both of them. They kind of apologized for the way they treated Karla, later on in the story which is good. All's good when it ends well.

P.S There's no infidelity /cheating in this book.

I have a confession: I had tears in my eyes towards the ending of Part 1 of the book. My heart could feel the bad omen. I was so so proud of Johanna and Chief for enduring all of that they did in Part 2 of the book. I— personally— wouldn't have made it, had it been me. Honestly.

I honestly had zero expectations going into the book and that's precisely why my rating for this book is filled with emotion over a technicality. But that being said, I was a little disappointed in the steam level of the book. I expected quite a lot, considering the theme of the book. Lol. (So much for not having expectations.😝)

I have just one more thing to say before I go (hehe... I know I have said enough already): IF YOU LOVE FORBIDDEN, OLDER, HOTTER, AND HUNKY MEN WHO WOULDN'T HESITATE TO DESTROY THE WORLD FOR THEIR LADY LOVE, GO GIVE THIS BOOK A CHANCE! TAKE MY WORD FOR IT.

P.P.S My panties melted with just their chemistry, I don't know what would have happened had the book been steamier. ”
